How to Look After Your Skin Between Waxing Appointments

Getting waxed regularly is one of the most effective ways to achieve smooth, hair-free skin — but what you do between appointments matters just as much as the wax itself. Follow these professional tips to keep your skin in the best possible condition and get the most out of every visit.

Wait at Least 24 Hours Before Touching the Area

Immediately after waxing, your skin is more sensitive and the hair follicles are open. For the first 24 hours, avoid touching the waxed area unnecessarily, and keep it away from heat — including hot showers, saunas, sunbeds and exercise that causes heavy sweating.

Exfoliate Regularly (But Not Straight Away)

Ingrown hairs are one of the most common concerns for waxing clients, and regular exfoliation is the best way to prevent them. Starting 48 to 72 hours after your appointment, gently exfoliate the waxed area two to three times per week using a body scrub or exfoliating mitt.

This keeps the skin clear of dead cells that can trap new hairs beneath the surface, reducing the likelihood of ingrowns and keeping your skin smooth between appointments.

Moisturise Daily

Keeping the skin hydrated helps maintain its elasticity and creates a healthier environment for hair regrowth. Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser to waxed areas daily. Avoid heavy, oil-based products for the first 48 hours after your appointment as these can block freshly opened follicles.

Let the Hair Grow to the Right Length

This is one of the most important — and most overlooked — aspects of waxing aftercare. For wax to grip the hair effectively, it needs to be at least 5mm long (roughly the length of a grain of rice). Resist the urge to shave between appointments, as this disrupts the hair growth cycle and can make future waxing less effective.

Book Consistently

The more regularly you wax, the finer and sparser your hair regrowth becomes over time — making each appointment easier and more comfortable. Most clients find every 4 to 6 weeks works well, though this varies depending on individual hair growth cycles.
