And why the small things matter…

When we think about changing our lives, we often think it requires a complete overhaul — a new routine, strict diet, expensive wellness regime or suddenly becoming the person who wakes up at 5am every morning.

But in reality? Some of the biggest changes come from the smallest habits.

At Chantilly, we're big believers in consistency — especially when it comes to your skin. One incredible facial can make your skin glow, but it's what you do consistently between appointments that creates lasting change.

The same applies to life.

Here are five simple habits that can make a huge difference to your wellbeing, confidence, productivity and skin health — plus a few tips for actually sticking to them.

1. Drinking More Water

Simple? Yes. Easy to forget? Also yes.

Making hydration a priority is one of the easiest healthy habits to introduce into your day.

Water plays an important role in normal body function and supports overall wellbeing. And while drinking litres of water isn't a magic cure for every skin concern, adequate hydration is still an important part of looking after yourself and supporting healthy skin.

Make it easier:

  • Keep a water bottle somewhere you can see it.

  • Drink a glass of water when you wake up.

  • Have water with every meal.

  • Add lemon, cucumber or fruit if plain water doesn't excite you.

  • Attach drinking water to something you already do — like making your morning coffee.

Chantilly tip: If your skin constantly feels dry or tight despite drinking plenty of water, your skincare routine may need some attention. Dehydrated skin can benefit from ingredients and treatments designed to support hydration and the skin barrier.

2. Wearing SPF Every. Single. Day.

If we could convince everyone to adopt just one skincare habit, daily SPF would be right near the top of the list.

UV exposure contributes to premature skin ageing and can worsen the appearance of pigmentation and uneven skin tone. And yes — UV exposure can still occur on cloudy days.

That's why sunscreen shouldn't just be something you reach for at the beach.

Make applying a broad-spectrum SPF part of your morning skincare routine, alongside cleansing and moisturising.

Make it easier:

Put your SPF somewhere you can't miss it — next to your toothbrush, makeup or morning skincare.

And choose one you actually enjoy wearing. If you hate how your sunscreen feels, you're far less likely to use it consistently.

Bonus tip: Don't forget commonly missed areas such as your ears, neck, chest and hands.

Your future skin will thank you.

3. Moving My Body Every Day

Exercise doesn't have to mean an intense gym session.

A walk around the block counts.

Stretching counts.

Playing with the kids counts.

A Pilates class counts.

Dancing around the kitchen absolutely counts.

Regular movement can support physical and mental wellbeing, and the key is finding something that fits into your lifestyle well enough that you'll actually keep doing it.

Instead of thinking:

"I need to work out."

Try:

"How can I move my body today?"

It's a much easier habit to maintain.

Try habit stacking:

Pair movement with something you already enjoy.

Listen to a podcast while walking.
Walk while taking a phone call.
Stretch while watching TV.
Meet a friend for a walk instead of always meeting for coffee.

Consistency beats perfection.

4. Creating Non-Negotiable Time for Myself

This might be the hardest habit on the list.

Life gets busy. Work, family, appointments, emails, errands and responsibilities can quickly fill every available space in your week.

Self-care tends to become the thing we do if there's time left over.

Spoiler: there usually isn't.

So instead of waiting for spare time to magically appear, schedule it.

And self-care doesn't need to mean an entire spa day.

It could be:

  • 20 minutes reading

  • Going for a walk alone

  • Having your brows done

  • Booking your facial

  • Putting your phone away

  • Having a bath

  • Doing your skincare properly

  • Sitting down with a coffee while it's actually still hot

Our favourite rule?

Book yourself in before you desperately need it.

This applies to beauty appointments too.

Rather than waiting until your brows desperately need attention or your skin feels completely out of control, pre-book your appointments and make maintenance part of your routine.

Self-care is much easier when it's already in the calendar.

5. Choosing Consistency Over Perfection

This one changed everything.

You don't need the perfect morning routine.

You don't need a 10-step skincare routine.

You don't need to exercise seven days a week.

You don't need to eat perfectly.

And you definitely don't need to completely transform your life overnight.

You just need to keep showing up.

This is something we talk about constantly when it comes to skin treatments and skincare.

We would much rather see someone following a simple, suitable skincare routine consistently than buying ten different products, using them sporadically and constantly changing what they're doing.

The same applies to professional treatments.

Treatments such as facials, skin needling, Laser Genesis, Hydrafacial and other corrective skin treatments are generally most effective when they're selected according to your individual skin concerns and incorporated into an appropriate treatment plan — rather than randomly booking whatever happens to be trending.

Remember:

Small actions + consistency + time = change.

How to Actually Make a New Habit Stick

Knowing what you should do is usually the easy part.

Actually doing it consistently is another story.

So start small.

Instead of deciding you're going to completely change your lifestyle on Monday, choose one habit.

Make it ridiculously achievable.

Want to drink more water? Start with one extra bottle per day.

Want a better skincare routine? Start with cleansing, moisturiser and SPF.

Want to exercise more? Start with a 15-minute walk.

Want more time for yourself? Block out 30 minutes this week.

Once that habit becomes part of your normal routine, build from there.

You don't need to change everything at once.

Your Skin Habits Matter Too

If improving your skin is one of your goals, you don't need to navigate it alone.

The internet is full of skincare advice, trending ingredients, viral products and treatments promising to completely transform your skin. The problem is that your skin is individual — and what works beautifully for someone else may not be what your skin needs.

At Chantilly Skin & Brow, our approach is centred around understanding your skin first.

Whether you're concerned about acne, pigmentation, redness, dehydration, texture, congestion or signs of ageing, we can help you understand what's happening with your skin and create a realistic treatment and home-care plan.

With Chantilly locations servicing Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and the Central Coast, our team offers professional skin consultations, advanced skin treatments, facials and personalised skincare recommendations.
